Mentions of minerality and salinity have become somewhat clichéd in the world of wine. Yet at this Chablis estate, these concepts are revitalized, energized and pushed to their fullest expression through the intellectual approach of the new generation — brothers David and Arnaud Lavantureux. Among the many secrets to their success, the estate’s old vines stand out for their remarkable ability to transform the challenges of recent warmer vintages into freshness and liquid terroir.
Domaine Roland Lavantureux Chablis 'Vauprin' 2022
Chablis – Burgundy, France
Grape: 100% Chardonnay
Terroir: Vauprin — steep hillside, Barremian limestone soils with marine fossils
Description
Chablis Vauprin 2022 is the most dramatic and electrifying expression in the portfolio of David and Arnaud Lavantureux. This plot was separated from the “generic” Chablis for its singular aromatic intensity and depth, born from one of the highest and steepest terroirs in the entire region, with Barremian limestone soils (younger than Kimmeridgian, but equally rich in marine fossils).
Fermented and aged 50% in used barrels (2 to 5 years) and 50% in stainless steel, the Vauprin 2022 combines texture with tension, delivering a white wine of immediate impact — a true “wow” with every sip. A vertical, vibrant, and intensely mineral Chablis with an energy that leaps from the glass.
