From recent history, it has taken on enormous proportions in the world of collectible wines, reaching stratospheric ratings in guidebooks and being chosen as a promise of Burgundy. Respect for the terroir is evidenced by biodynamics, practiced for more than 20 years, since the era of Pascal Marchand, succeeded by Pierre Vincent (today Domaine Leflaive) to propose more ethereal wines, of delicacy and fruit purity, maintained by Sylvie Poillot . The Domaine's arsenal of vineyards is impressive. Highlight for the Clos Blanc de Vougeot, considered by Jasper Morris MW the best white on the Côte de Nuits.
The Clos Blanc, a mythical and mystical vineyard, is adjacent to the Château du Clos de Vougeot.
Aged for 16 months in French oak barrels (Allier and Cîteaux), only 23% of which are new, and 2 months in tanks. Little Bâtonnage and only one racking. Bottled on a fruit day. Only 3043 bottles made.
Jasper Morris 92-95 points:
“Pale lemon and lime, with both a refined bouquet and intensity behind. “The inimitable Clos Blanc” says Sylvie. So much fruit detail here, both the sharper styles such as fresh apple, through a whole range of pears but stopping short of peach or anything tropical. All white fruit, excellent taffeta texture, great length.”
