Arrived at Temple Wines: Noelia Ricci - a return to the essence of Romagna

At Temple Wines, we are constantly looking for stories that move us, wines that inspire us and people who shape the future of wine while respecting its past. Guilherme lived in Italy for many years and this passion runs deep in his blood! Therefore, it is with great excitement that we announce the arrival of yet another incredible project from there, which meets all these criteria with distinction: Noelia Ricci, an Italian family and organic project that is giving new life to the wines of Romagna, focusing on indigenous varieties Sangiovese and Trebbiano.

A Family Story with Deep Roots

More than just a wine cellar, Noelia Ricci is a living tribute to the vision and sensitivity of a woman who saw far: Noelia, the matriarch of the family, who in the 1970s planted the first vineyards on the hills of Predappio, a historic area of Emilia-Romagna.

Today, the project is led by his grandson March, who transformed the property into a true Italian “Domaine” — a rare example in the region — where tradition, identity and expression of the terroir meet in perfect harmony. Here, nature speaks loudly and intervention is minimal, always focusing on the purity and longevity of the wines.

Unique Terroir: The Heart of Predappio

The subzone of Predappio, where Noelia Ricci was born, is one of the most historic and prestigious in the production of Sangiovese of Romagna. Since 2011, this appellation has been divided into 12 sub-zones, with Predappio recognised as one of its most expressive Crus — both for the richness of its soils and the historical depth of local viticulture.

With altitudes ranging from 200 to 340 meters, the vineyard of Noelia Ricci is located in San Cristoforo, on a ridge facing southeast. The soil is a challenging mixture of three distinct geological matrices:

  • Spungone (biocalcarenite) from Bertinoro

  • Modigliana Sandstone

  • Sulphur marl of Predappio

The combination of these elements creates soils clayey but light, rich in limestone and sulfurous minerals, with ochre sands that guarantee drainage and complexity.

The climate of Predappio is continental, but with the mild influence of the Adriatic breeze, which freely runs the 50 km from the sea to the vineyards. The temperature ranges and low humidity, resulting from dry winds, contribute to the aromatic purity and structural firmness of wines.

This is a demanding terroir, but incredibly generous for those who know how to listen to it.

The Noelia Ricci Style: Tradition, Elegance and Minimalism

In the vineyard, respect for the environment is total:

  • 100% certified organic production since 2021

  • Soil management with plant cover

  • Guyot pruning and manual work in every detail

  • Natural fences that protect from wind and excessive heat

The vineyards were planted in the late 1990s and represent a tribute to indigenous varieties. You only plant Sangiovese and Trebbiano, because these are the ones that tell the true story of the place.

The winery follows a philosophy of minimal intervention, vinifying each plot with spontaneous fermentations and without clarification or filtering. The work is all done in-house by the property team – no outsourcing, no shortcuts.

The Wines: Elegance and Identity

The Sangiovese

Romagna DOC Sangiovese Superiore
A direct, fresh red with crisp red fruit and fine tannins. Spontaneously fermented, aged in steel and cement. A true portrait of young Sangiovese from Romagna.

Bro'

Romagna DOC Trebbiano
An unconventional white. Spontaneously fermented with a small part in contact with the skins and kept on fine lees for 6 months. Saline notes, gastronomic profile and incisive freshness. A bold interpretation of Trebbiano Romagnolo and Trebbiano of Spain.
