Viticulture & Terroir
The grapes come from 30-year-old vines grown on granitic soils at 380 metres in the Amarante sub-region.
The Espadeiro is sourced from Rui Paiva’s vineyards, harvested in the first two weeks of October; the Arinto is estate-grown, harvested in the third week of September.
All farming follows certified organic practices.
Winemaking
The varieties were vinified separately with spontaneous fermentation in clay amphorae (talhas).
• Espadeiro: 8 weeks of skin-contact maceration with no temperature control; then pressed and returned to amphora.
• Arinto: Fermented in amphora at controlled temperature (15ºC), then transferred to stainless steel.
A small amount of ground chestnut flowers was added to each must to stimulate natural fermentation.
The final blend was assembled in January, and the wine was bottled in February with 25 mg/L SO₂.
No fining or filtration.
Tasting Notes
A surprising combination of Espadeiro’s vibrant acidity and Arinto’s tension.
Bright, pale colour with aromas of wild red berries, light earthy notes and an elegant vegetal undertone.
On the palate, it is lightly structured, intensely fresh, with fine tannins and a dry, clean finish.
A natural red that honours the Atlantic character of Vinho Verde.
