Bourgogne, France
Pierre Clair is one of the masters of biodynamics in Burgundy, with vast experience as “chef de culture” at our Domaine Marquis d’Angerville in Volnay, and together with his wife he now looks after vineyards inherited from his family in the phenomenal natural project Clair Obscur. Natural in the purest sense of the word, crafting wines with maximum life and minimum intervention from lesser-known terroirs that, in the hands of someone who knows their craft, can rival even the greatest crus. The name also plays with the idea that life is never completely black or white — sometimes, one must find balance in a shade of grey... Clair Obscur!
The les Prévoles parcel has gained increasing attention in recent years. This climat, once discreetly recognised, has seen a renaissance thanks to vignerons like Les Horées, Renaud Boyer and other natural and artisanal producers. The sensitive approach of Jennifer and Pierre to both vineyard and terroir has revealed the true potential of this site, known for wines of great finesse, depth and authenticity.
