Grape: 100% Alvarinho

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Description

From the prestigious Cambeses area in Monção, cousins Sara and Pedro Covas carry on the family tradition of crafting classic Vinho Verde, with a focus on expressing the depth of Alvarinho. This small, meticulous family winery produces just 15,000 bottles a year — each one made with precision and passion — now embraced by the Temple Wines team of terroir explorers.

Cortinha Velha Alvarinho Late Harvest 2022 offers a rare and elegant take on Alvarinho, from the granitic slopes of Monção and Melgaço. Harvested late on November 5th, this luscious white wine is crafted from overripe grapes, hand-picked and whole-bunch pressed in a vertical press.

Fermentation takes place entirely in stainless steel, with 12 months of lees aging followed by a short 3-month bottle maturation. The result is a textured, balanced dessert wine with natural residual sugar (86.3 g/L), vibrant acidity, and creamy mouthfeel.

Extremely limited production — only 900 bottles (50cl) — makes this a rare treasure for lovers of fresh, mineral-driven dessert wines.

Tasting Notes
Bright golden hue. The nose reveals delicate aromas of ripe white fruits, orange blossom, and honey. The palate is soft and textured, with notes of nectarine, honey, and almond. Sweetness is beautifully balanced by firm acidity, leading to a long, complex finish. One of Portugal’s finest dessert wines.
