Now at Temple Wines: Noelia Ricci — A Return to the Essence of Romagna

At Temple Wines, we are always seeking stories that move us, wines that inspire, and people who shape the future of wine while honouring its past. Guilherme lived many years in Italy and that passion runs deep in his veins! So, it is with great excitement that we announce the arrival of another remarkable project from Italy — one that meets all these criteria with distinction: Noelia Ricci, a family-run, certified organic estate breathing new life into the wines of Romagna, with a focus on native varieties Sangiovese and Trebbiano.

A Family Story with Deep Roots

More than just a winery, Noelia Ricci is a living tribute to the vision and sensitivity of a woman who saw far ahead: Noelia, the family matriarch, who planted the first vines on the hills of Predappio in the 1970s, a historic winegrowing zone of Emilia-Romagna.

Today, the project is led by her grandson Marco, who has transformed the estate into a true Italian “Domaine” — a rare model in the region — where tradition, identity, and terroir expression are in perfect harmony. Here, nature speaks loudly and intervention is minimal, always focused on purity and longevity in the wines.

Unique Terroir: The Heart of Predappio

The Predappio subzone, home to Noelia Ricci, is one of the most historic and prestigious areas for producing Sangiovese di Romagna. Since 2011, the denomination has been divided into 12 subzones, with Predappio recognised as one of the most expressive Crus — thanks to both the richness of its soils and the deep viticultural heritage.

At altitudes between 200 and 340 metres, Noelia Ricci’s vineyards are located in San Cristoforo, on a southeast-facing ridge. The soils are a challenging blend of three distinct geological components:

Spungone (biocalcarenite) from Bertinoro
• Sandstone from Modigliana
• Sulphurous marl from Predappio

This combination creates light yet clay-based soils, rich in calcareous and sulphurous minerals, with ochre sands that provide excellent drainage and complexity.

Predappio’s climate is continental but tempered by breezes from the Adriatic, which flows freely across the 50 km from sea to vineyard. The wide diurnal range and low humidity — the result of these dry winds — contribute to the wines’ aromatic purity and structural firmness.

It is a demanding terroir, but incredibly generous for those who know how to listen.

The Noelia Ricci Style: Tradition, Elegance and Minimalism

In the vineyard, environmental respect is total:

• 100% certified organic production since 2021
• Soil management with cover crops
• Guyot pruning and manual work in every detail
• Natural hedges to shield from excessive wind and heat

The vines were planted in the late 1990s and represent a tribute to native grapes. Only Sangiovese and Trebbiano are grown here — because these are the varieties that truly tell the story of this place.

The cellar follows a philosophy of minimal intervention, vinifying each plot with spontaneous fermentations and without fining or filtration. Everything is done by the estate’s own team — no outsourcing, no shortcuts.

The Wines: Elegance and Identity

Il Sangiovese
Romagna DOC Sangiovese Superiore
A direct, fresh red, with crunchy red fruit and fine tannins. Spontaneously fermented, aged in stainless steel and concrete. A true portrait of young Sangiovese from Romagna.

Bro’
Romagna DOC Trebbiano
An unconventional white. Spontaneously fermented, with a small proportion of skin contact, and aged on fine lees for 6 months. Saline notes, a gastronomic profile, and incisive freshness. A bold interpretation of Trebbiano Romagnolo and Trebbiano di Spagna.
