Producer

Spain’s most fascinating, awarded, and sought-after domaine tells the story of an inspired vigneron: Jorge Monzón. After spending two years working alongside Bernard Noblet at the legendary Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, followed by one year at Vega Sicilia and ten more at Arzuaga Navarro, Jorge returned to his native village of Aguilera in Ribera del Duero. With immense talent, meticulous attention to detail, and a vision rooted in ancient Ribera traditions, Jorge has assembled some of the region’s finest old vines — and is now stunning the world with some of the best whites, claretes, and reds in Spanish winemaking history.

Wine

A clarete as they used to make it — and as almost no one does today: crafted from both red and white grapes, this wine defies classic definitions. The Pícaro del Águila Clarete 2023 is a field blend of old vines, composed of 35% Tempranillo, 35% Albillo Mayor, with the balance made up of an extraordinary mix of indigenous varieties — Garnacha, Bobal, Bruñal, Monastrell, Tempranillo Gris, several types of Albillo, Garnacha Blanca, Pirules, Jaén, Moscatel, Malvasía, among other rarities that lend soul and depth to this wine.

Though rosé in colour, it is vinified like a red and aged for 19 months in French oak barrels. In the glass, it is expressive, aromatic, and seductive, with beautifully integrated complexity. The palate is juicy, vibrant, and velvety, marked by notes of peach and a savoury mineral tension. Intriguingly, the wine did not undergo malolactic fermentation, which further preserves its natural acidity.

More than a rosé — this is a bridge between the past and future of Ribera del Duero, a masterclass in terroir and identity.

Tasting Notes

Aromatic and expressive nose of stone fruit, wild herbs, and subtle spice. On the palate, fresh and textured, with a supple mouthfeel, crisp acidity, and a savoury, mineral-driven finish. An exceptionally gastronomic and age-worthy rosé.
