Marjan Simčič Pinot Noir Cru Selection 2019
Brda – Slovenia
100% Pinot Noir · Organic farming · Artisan production

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Producer
Marjan Simčič was “the key to the success of the Goriška Brda region,” as Decanter magazine writes. At just 20, he took over his family estate (founded in 1860) and elevated the region to new heights, both nationally and internationally. Brda enjoys an exceptional terroir where the Alps meet the Mediterranean, with flysch marl soils known as opoka. Marjan, a true force of nature, works organically to craft wines of great authenticity and minerality — unmissable for terroir seekers.

Description
Crafted from 23-year-old vines planted at 250 metres altitude on south- and east-facing slopes, this Pinot Noir expresses the precise mineral character of Brda’s opoka soils (marl, slate and sandstone). The grapes are harvested by hand, carefully sorted, and fermented spontaneously with native yeasts.

The wine matures for 24 months: first in 2,500L conical oak vats, then in French oak barriques. The result is a complex, velvety Pinot that retains fresh fruit and mineral clarity.

Tasting notes
Translucent ruby colour. Expressive aromas of sour cherry, tobacco leaf, dried herbs and subtle spices. On the palate, it’s fresh and elegant, with fine tannins, lively acidity and a long, slightly earthy finish — evoking graphite and wet stone. An authentic, vibrant Pinot with a profile that bridges Burgundy and Friuli.
