The Algarve’s most exciting and authentic wines and the largest collection of old organically grown vines in the region are available at this family farm founded in early 1810 by the 1st Count of Silves. Joana Maçanita and the 4th generation of the family, represented by Filipe Caldas de Vasconcellos, work exclusively with indigenous grape varieties and yeasts, and use ancestral or minimal intervention methods to rediscover the Algarve’s potential. At another historic 12th century farm in Tomar, the family, advised by João Nunes, is just as passionate about recreating the wines created by the Marquise of Tomar in the 19th century.
Wine:
Morgado do Quintão Negra Mole 2021 is a Portuguese red wine with a light and elegant profile, made exclusively with Black Mole, the most traditional native grape variety in Algarve. This low intervention wine is produced by the winemaker Joana Maçanita, from grapes from old vines planted in Mediterranean soils.
With a minimalist approach in the cellar and manual harvesting, this red reveals the pure character of the algarve terroir, offering an authentic experience for those looking for fresh, organic wines with regional identity.
Tasting Notes
Light ruby color with violet hints. On the nose, it reveals notes of red fruits, wild berries and a light touch of Mediterranean spices. In the mouth it is delicate, light, with soft tannins and vibrant freshness, perfect for drinking young and accompanying simple Portuguese dishes.
