Clos de la Commaraine Pommard 1er Cru Monopole 2022
Pommard 1er Cru AOC – Burgundy, France

Description
From our very first tasting, it was clear: something extraordinary was happening at Clos de la Commaraine. Paul Krug’s biodynamic precision, tireless vineyard work and deep understanding of this unique terroir have quickly established this domaine as one of the most spectacular in France.

Few places in Burgundy carry the historical and symbolic weight of Clos de la Commaraine. Visiting this 3.75-hectare monopole on the northern slope of Pommard, facing Beaune, one feels the quiet power of a terroir combining tradition with precision. The 2022 vintage beautifully captures this balance — a refined, deeply fruited Pinot Noir with an exciting future in the cellar.

The vineyard’s red-tinged clay-limestone soils, rich in iron oxides, shape wines of elegance, delicate tannins and mineral tension. Farmed biodynamically and regeneratively, the wines express purity and life — vibrant, tense and supremely age-worthy.

Ratings & Reviews
• 92–95 pts — Jasper Morris MW
“Powerful nose, structured, quite closed. The fruit is ripe with good tension behind and many layers of dark fruit. Juiciness prevails over any stiffness. A hint of bitterness suggests long ageing. Best from 2030 to 2038.”

• 96–97+ pts — Lobenberg
“A grand, silky Pinot Noir in the style of Comte Liger-Belair. This terroir has always shown greatness — now with proper viticulture, it shines.”

Tasting Notes
Expressive nose of dark berries, violets and fine spices. On the palate, it is deep and elegant, with ripe fruit, silky tannins, minerality and a long, layered finish. A Premier Cru of finesse and structure, with exceptional ageing potential.
