Producer
Under the stewardship of Romain Taupenot, representing the 7th generation of this historic domaine, the family’s sovereign parcels have been farmed organically since 2001. The wines here embody the purest expression of fruit and terroir, free from the imprint of new oak or artifice. Based in Morey-Saint-Denis, Romain’s terroir-driven philosophy results in wines of precision, vibrancy, and honesty — Grand Crus that let their origins speak with clarity and depth.
Tasting Notes
Charmes-Chambertin 2013 shows the seductive, refined side of the Côte de Nuits, with a subtle yet complex expression of Pinot Noir sourced from three generations of vines in this most prestigious terroir. Crafted with Romain Taupenot’s sensitive and terroir-focused approach, this Grand Cru offers striking balance between acidity, fruit, and graceful evolution.
The grapes are fully destemmed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks for 8 to 13 days. Extraction is gentle, with carefully controlled punchdowns and pump-overs. The wine is aged for 12 to 15 months in French oak barrels (up to 40% new), then spends an additional 3 months in tank before bottling — un-fined and rarely filtered.
Now in 2024, this Grand Cru is at a beautiful point in its evolution: resolved tannins, layers of tertiary character (mushroom, sous-bois, truffle), vibrant red fruit, and persistent freshness. A wine of elegance and poise.
