Oddero Barolo Bussia ‘Vigna Mondoca’ Riserva 2017
Barolo DOCG – Piedmont, Italy
Grape: 100% Nebbiolo
Cru: Vigna Mondoca, Bussia (Monforte d’Alba)
Production: only 3,500 bottles
On the far southwestern edge of Bussia, on a slope called Mondoca, Nebbiolo vines face an extreme terroir: sandy white soils, dry as the surface of the moon, with intense sun exposure.
It is in this radical setting that Oddero produces one of its rarest and most iconic wines, Vigna Mondoca Riserva — a Barolo that combines power, austerity and mineral poetry.
Fermented for 30 days and aged 36 months in 30 hl botti, this wine spends an additional two years in bottle before release, only in great vintages.
The result is a deep, balsamic and complex wine, with notes of wild berries, Mediterranean wood, dried petals and the goudron nuance typical of great, evolving Barolos.
