A. Margaine Spécial Club Blanc de Blancs 2016
Villers-Marmery 1er Cru | Montagne de Reims | Champagne, France
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Producer & Origin
Since 1796, the Margaine family has cultivated the vineyards of Villers-Marmery, a unique 1er Cru terroir on the Montagne de Reims. In this land of Pinot Noir, the slope exposure and chalky soil shift, giving Chardonnay a refined, vinous, and singular expression. In recent years, viticulture here has advanced greatly: the estate’s 10 hectares are farmed organically with precise soil management. The vines are old, adding complexity and depth.

Style & Philosophy
A. Margaine’s Spécial Club 2016 is a rare gem — not only for its finesse and vinous style, but also because it belongs to the elite Club Trésors de Champagne. This designation is awarded only to the top Champagnes from the region’s finest growers. Crafted from Chardonnay grown in Villers-Marmery, this cuvée captures the perfect balance of elegance, structure, and minerality. A Champagne for lovers of refined and gastronomic wines.

What is “Spécial Club”?
Founded in 1971 by independent vignerons, the Club Trésors de Champagne promotes grower Champagnes of exceptional quality.
For a Champagne to bear the “Spécial Club” label, it must:
-
Be a vintage wine (Millésime)
-
Pass two blind tastings (before and after the second fermentation)
-
Be bottled in the club’s exclusive, specially designed bottle
Historic members include:
Jacques Selosse, Pierre Gimonnet, Paul Bara, Marc Hébrart, Rémy Massin, A. Margaine.

Tasting Notes
Refined, incisive, and vinous. Understated lemon fruit evolves with age into tantalizing notes of walnut and butter, with crisp minerality and texture. A Champagne of tension and finesse, showing the purity of its origin.

Critical Acclaim
“The vintage Blanc de Blancs [the ‘Spécial Club’ bottling] from this grower based in the little-known village of Villers-Marmery at the far eastern end of the Montagne de Reims is refined, incisive, and vinous, built on understated lemon fruit, and acquiring tantalizing walnut-butter notes with time.”
