Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Champans 2022
The quintessence of Volnay. The historic estate, which includes the sublime Clos des Ducs, was once owned by the Dukes of Burgundy and has been rooted in the heart of the village in the hands of the same family for over 200 years. Authentic wines, of extreme minimalism, made by the d'Angerville family, who have always led the fight against counterfeiting, whether through pioneering estate bottling or their active role in the conception of the current Burgundy AOC system. Fully biodynamic since 2009, the purity of this superb producer's terroirs is maintained intact with the rigorous winemaking of François Duvivier, who delicately works the wines in harmony, respecting the rhythms of nature.

Description
The Volnay Champans 2022 comes from 3.98 hectares of the Domaine d’Angerville, located in the heart of the Premiers Crus of Volnay. The southeast exposure and soils that range from rocky limestone at the top to clay at the base of the slope give this wine a firm structure while maintaining elegance. It is a true archetype of Volnay 1er Cru, combining finesse, volume, and a silky texture, with an added depth and power.

Tasting Notes
Aromas of dark cherries, currants, and wildflowers. On the palate, it impresses with its breadth, balance, and persistence. The pure, juicy fruit is supported by fine tannins and vibrant acidity. The finish is long and enveloping.

Food Pairing
Roast partridge with herbs, duck breast with figs, grilled lamb chops, dishes with black truffles.

Aging Potential
2026 to 2040. The Champans is generally more accessible in youth than the Taillepieds or Clos des Ducs but continues to evolve beautifully for decades.

Ratings
18/20 – Jancis Robinson
"Bright ruby color, medium to dense intensity. A light touch of mushrooms on the nose. On the palate, there's lots of substance — glorious fruit that almost makes us forget the firm structure behind it. An expressive and spicy wine that comes remarkably close to the Platonic ideal of a great red Burgundy. Quite heady! But with a well-defined skeleton. More full-bodied and fleshy than the Taille Pieds. And with an endless finish! (JR)"
