Morgon is one of the most prestigious locations in Beaujolais and the Côte du Py has stood out throughout history for its ability to produce wines with density, structure and minerality. Here, the soil profile is different from the “granitic norm” of the region and schist plays a leading role. Schist is highly altered in its nature, also with volcanic diorites, and rich in manganese and iron. Iron, which contributes to the more reductive profile of the wines produced there, combined with the structured profile that Mee Godard seeks, requires decantation. manganese further contributes to the structure. Just 30 minutes of air in your home will open up the delicate floral aromas of this wine, allowing the fruit and schist minerality to grow. Firm but very polished tannins.
Mee Godard is a rising star in France and around the world, and in just a few years she has already been awarded star of the year by the renowned French magazine "Revue des Vins de France".
Wine:
Just 1.7 hectares in the Cote du Py climat, the famous “grand cru” of Beaujolais. Mee Godard’s vines are already approaching 70 years old.
“The winemaking is classic: whole bunches are largely retained and macerations last several weeks, with pump-overs and punch-downs adapted vintage after vintage. Maturation follows in concrete, foudre, demi-muids and barrels, depending on the cuvée. The resulting wines are pure, elegantly structured and traditional in style, with the substance to age but also with considerable initial charm.” William Kelley
Jancis Robinson: 17.5/20 points.
" Mee Godard is the goddess of poetry in the vineyards of Morgon. She gives rocks their voices through vines through wine."
