Description

The mention of minerality and salinity has become somewhat cliché in the wine world. Yet here in Chablis, those concepts are reinvigorated, energized, and elevated to their highest expression through the intellectual vision of the new generation of brothers leading Domaine Roland Lavantureux. Among the many secrets of their success, the estate’s old vines stand out for their extraordinary ability to translate the challenges of warmer recent vintages into freshness and liquid terroir.

The 2022 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir is an unmissable reference among the great whites of Burgundy. Grown on one of Chablis’ most prestigious sites, the Vaudésir climat, this wine rigorously expresses the balance between depth, freshness, and mineral power.

The vines are planted on steep slopes with fossil-rich Kimmeridgian soils, which impart the wine’s unmistakable tension and salinity. Fermented with indigenous yeasts, the wine is aged for around 16 months in a combination of stainless steel and French oak barrels (proportions vary depending on the vintage), allowing the wine to breathe and develop complexity.

In 2022, the profile is more generous, yet retains the sharp focus and cutting minerality that define the finest Chablis. A wine of energy, texture, and admirable aging potential.

"This is very stylish on the nose. The palate is chiselled and full of energy, a lovely big bold white fruit with excellent acidity and good length. I like what’s left in the glass as well. Very promising."

Tasting Notes

The nose reveals layers of candied lemon, green apple, white flowers, wet stone, and subtle vanilla. On the palate, it is dense and refined, with vibrant acidity, a saline touch, and a long, chiselled finish. A Grand Cru of remarkable precision, with the potential to evolve for 10 to 15 years in the cellar.
