“Instead of the fruit and wood bomb, Fèlsina opted for refinement and balance”, summarize Bastianich and Lynch in the unavoidable “Vino Italiano, The Regional Wines of Italy”. The unbeatable duo of Giuseppe Mazzocolin, a former professor of Greek and Latin, and the fantastic winemaker Franco Bernabei have been betting on Sangiovese, to the detriment of international grape varieties, since the early 1980s. 1983, and since then an icon of Tuscany. For those who love ultra-traditional Chianti, the Poggiali family also produces the classic Pagliarese in another dream property.
The vineyards of this Chianti Classico Berardenga are located in Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the southeastern part of the Chianti Classico appellation, southeast of Siena. Almost exclusively with a southwesterly exposure, they spread along ventilated slopes at an altitude ranging from 320-420 meters above sea level. Geologically, the terrain is mixed: in the higher parts the soil is predominantly rocky quartz and limestone alberese mixed with alluvial pebbles; sandstone and clay characterize the vineyards on the edge of the Colli Senesi towards Crete Senesi. Aged in medium-sized Slovenian oak barrels, and a small percentage in twice- and three-time used oak barrels; 12 months of maturation in total.
