Producer:

Montalcino’s absolute standout in the spectacular The Sommelier’s Atlas of Taste, the new book by the world’s most influential sommelier, Rajat Parr, Le Ragnaie is truly a gem. Unlike the pompous producers of international wines laden with overripe black fruit and oak from Tuscany’s most famous DOCG, Le Ragnaie delivers “classic, charming, elegant and red fruit-driven” wines, according to Raj. The secret lies in the high-altitude vineyards, one of which is the highest in the region, all organically grown, and the most traditional winemaking possible.

Wine: Le Ragnaie’s Brunello 2018 is the definition of classic, from its color to its charming aroma and structure that combines strength without weighing down the palate. Notes of black tea, Mediterranean herbs, vibrant cherries and earthiness. On the palate, an immensity of tannins and vibrant acidity shape the wine, which stands out for its linear presence that begs for food. Immense cellaring potential in this traditional top-of-the-range Brunello.

Robert Parker: 94 points
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is delicate and fine with aromas of wild cherry, licorice, grilled herb and pressed violet. It brings more power to the palate with medium-rich concentration, pretty freshness and silky tannins. The fine tannic management stands out here, as does its contained alcohol. In a vintage that sees very high alcohol levels across the board, Le Ragnaie should be congratulated on maintaining a more moderate 13.5% alcohol content."
