Montalcino’s absolute standout in the spectacular The Sommelier’s Atlas of Taste, the new book by the world’s most influential sommelier, Rajat Parr, Le Ragnaie is truly a gem. Unlike the pompous producers of international wines laden with overripe black fruit and oak from Tuscany’s most famous DOCG, Le Ragnaie delivers “classic, charming, elegant and red fruit-driven” wines, according to Raj. The secret lies in the high-altitude vineyards, one of which is the highest in the region, all organically grown, and the most traditional winemaking possible.
From Vigna Casanovina Montosoli. In 2015, Le Ragnaie acquired this parcel of the Motosoli vineyard just below the historic Altesino estate site. This Sangiovese is fermented with indigenous yeasts in concrete before spending 3 years in 32 hl Slovenian oak vats.
