Producer
Long before his current fame, we met Márcio Lopes at the very start of his career — and it was immediately clear that he would become one of the leading figures of Portuguese wine in no time. And so it happened. Now under 40, he has already earned countless awards in major national and international publications, consistently high scores from top critics, and was included in Robert Parker’s Top 100 Wine Discoveries 2020.
Despite all this success, the Márcio we know remains a dreamer — focused, humble, family-centred and one of the finest interpreters of terroir in Portugal. His Ensaios Soltos series expresses his creativity through small, limited bottlings that explore alternative techniques, indigenous varieties or forgotten terroirs.
Márcio Lopes Ensaios Soltos Loureiro Cuvée 2024
Lima sub-region – Vinho Verde, Portugal
Grape: 100% Loureiro
Production: Only 2,376 bottles
Description
The 2024 edition of Ensaios Soltos Loureiro Cuvée is born from Márcio Lopes’s experimental spirit — a quest to push the boundaries of the Loureiro grape through small, daring vinifications.
Sourced from granite soils in the Lima sub-region, this wine is made from whole-cluster pressed grapes, fermented in stainless steel, then aged on fine lees for 5 months.
The result is a vibrant, elegant white wine, with pure aromas and silky texture. It showcases the subtlety and gastronomic potential of Loureiro — far from the commercial styles so common in the region.
