Miani Merlot “Buri” 2021
Friuli Colli Orientali – Italy
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Description
The stark contrast between one of the most spartan cellars in Friuli and some of the country’s (some say the world’s) most stunning vineyards — cultivated like a garden and framed by the Julian Alps — already hints at what you’ll find in these cult Italian wines: pure terroir, minimal intervention. The calloused hands and sunburnt face of the brilliant Enzo Pontoni reveal a true vigneron — a luminous farmer quietly crafting the finest white wines in all of Italy.
Some visits change the way you see wine. Spending time with Enzo Pontoni, in the heart of Friuli, was one such experience. Quiet, focused, with deliberate gestures and a penetrating gaze — Enzo speaks little, but his wines say everything. And among them, the Merlot “Buri” holds a special place: a wine with soul, gravitas and restrained power that left us speechless after the first sip.
The Miani Merlot “Buri” 2021 is a rare wine, from a single parcel of old vines. This is Merlot as you’ve never tasted it before: dense, vibrant, with deep black fruit, structure and precision, but also elegance and a haunting emotional weight.
In the cellar, Enzo lets the wine speak. Precise vinifications, minimal intervention. The new barrels hide nothing — they simply elevate the character of the wine. This is more than a Merlot: it’s a testament to passion and deep respect for the land.

Tasting Notes
Deep and energetic, with vibrant black fruit, mineral tension, and layers of earth, graphite and spice. The palate is powerful but finely sculpted, with polished tannins and a long, persistent finish.
