Portalegre is one of Portugal’s most promising wine regions — not only in the Alentejo, but nationwide. The Fino family were pioneers here, first connected to the famed Tapada do Chaves estate and, after its sale in 1998, to Monte da Penha, planted in the 1980s on beautiful vineyards along the Serra de São Mamede slopes. The granite soils and altitudes (400 to 550 metres) lend remarkable ageing potential to the wines, and the estate’s cellar of older vintages offers a unique record of the region’s history and terroir. Since 2020, the talented Susana Esteban has overseen winemaking at Monte da Penha.

Monte da Penha Branco 2022 displays the elegance and freshness that are hallmarks of Portalegre’s higher altitudes. The nose is delicately fruity, offering notes of citrus and white peach, with subtle floral hints. On the palate, it is balanced, with lively acidity and a soft texture, finishing with a mineral touch that invites the next sip.
