Portalegre is one of the wine regions with the greatest potential not only in Alentejo, but in all of Portugal. The Fino family was one of the pioneers of the region, initially linked to Tapada do Chaves, and after its sale in 1998, to Monte da Penha, planted in the 1980s in beautiful vineyards on the slopes of the Serra de Mamede, in mostly granite soils, between 400 and 550 meters above sea level. The wines from this house age superbly, and their collection of old vintages is a treasure that tells the story of the history and geography of this incredible region. The talented Susana Esteban has been in charge of its winemaking since 2020.
Wine:
2 hectares planted in 1987, in granite, clay-limestone and schist soils at an altitude of 400 meters in Portalegre.
Blend of 2 harvests - 2021, 2022 - and the following grape varieties: Arinto, Roupeiro, Fernão Pires and Trincadeira das Pratas (Tamarez).
“Verónica” is a tribute to the woman, mother and friend, and to all the legacy she left behind. Present since the early days of Monte da Penha, side by side with her husband Francisco Fino, Verónica Beja Fino has always been the sweet, cheerful and positive side of the business and the family, with her generosity, elegance and dedication. An artist and a dreamer, she was much more than the founder of a project and a family. She was a mother in everything she gave, an artist in everything she painted, and love in everything she touched and dedicated herself to. Just like Verónica, this wine is a cheerful, fruity and elegant companion. The result of two harvests, 2021 and 2022, from two hectares of old Monte da Penha vineyards, with the Arinto, Fernão Pires, Roupeiro and Trincadeira das Pratas varieties. This special batch of 2,936 bottles was produced by our winemaker, Susana Esteban, and Francisco Fino.
