Producer

Luís Lopes is one of Portugal’s most gifted winemakers. In his vibrant youth, he already brings extraordinary vineyard, cellar and tasting experience. From Comte Lafon in Burgundy, nearly a decade leading the classic wines of Quinta da Pellada, to adventures in New Zealand and projects like Alvear in Extremadura — Luís is a curious, humble, ever-evolving talent. His personal label, Moreish, reflects this spirit: wines that are unexpected, spontaneous and mouth-wateringly delicious.

Description

Moreish Pelicular 2023 is a white wine with the soul of an orange wine, made entirely from Maria Gomes (Fernão Pires), grown on rare marne bleue soils — the famed blue marl of Bairrada, akin to those found in France’s Jura.

The first third of fermentation was carried out with skins in a traditional lagar, followed by gentle pressing and completion of fermentation in used barrels. The one-week skin contact brings texture, structure and a complex aromatic profile of spices, stone fruit and a subtle oxidative note.

A bold, saline, nervy and yet beautifully balanced wine. A vibrant, uncommon expression of Maria Gomes.
