The slopes of the highest active volcano in Western Europe preserve precious centuries-old vineyards, which have been fought over since the 1990s by stubborn locals and ambitious foreigners for the explosive combination of finesse and minerality of their wines. Few producers, like Michele Faro's Pietradolce, from an old family of farmers from Mount Etna, however, achieve the maximum excellence and distinctive character of this fashionable region. Organic farming, only native varieties from centuries-old vines in the best “contrade”, and precise winemaking inspired by ancient techniques.
Wine:
Pre-phylloxera vineyard over 100-120 years old from Carricante planted in Albarello at 850 meters above sea level on the hills east of Mount Etna! Very stony and sandy soils. Long maceration and aging in French tonneaux.
