Água Serra 2022 – Quinta de Sant’Ana
100% Arinto · Certified Organic · Lisbon Wine Region
Background
The story of Quinta de Sant’Ana reads almost like a novel: an Englishman, James Frost, decides to restore his German wife’s abandoned family estate, raising their children there, cultivating the land, and producing wines of strong identity.
In partnership with one of Portugal’s most respected winemakers, António Maçanita, this family project has revealed the hidden potential of the Lisbon region. Since 2015, the estate has been certified organic, working with indigenous yeasts and minimal sulphur in a truly honest, minimalist approach.
Viticulture & Ageing
Arinto grapes are harvested at medium to advanced ripeness and gently whole-bunch pressed in a pneumatic press, yielding a pure and expressive must. Controlled oxidation of the must enhances stability and reduces the need for added sulphur.
Fermentation is spontaneous:
• 40% in barrel at ambient temperature
• 60% in stainless steel at low temperature
Malolactic fermentation occurs only in the barrel-fermented portion.
The wine remains on fine lees as long as possible, with bâtonnage only during topping-up.
Total ageing: 20 months.
Light filtration at bottling.
Tasting Notes
Golden yellow colour.
The nose shows vibrant aromas of grapefruit, apricot and honeysuckle, layered over limestone minerality, delicate smoke and subtle toasted notes.
The palate is graceful and textured, supported by lively acidity that highlights freshness and carries a persistent, elegant finish.
