This viejisimo (extremely old in Spanish) Moscatel is a rarity. Valdespino only releases this nectar occasionally, since the 'criadera' that makes it consists of only one barrel. An average of 100 half-bottles are removed and bottled annually. In addition, we have its unique quality and depth, and the fact that it is the oldest Moscatel on the market, probably 100 years old. Elements that together have helped it achieve its mythical status.
So concentrated it's almost opaque in color. Impressive thickness and density rarely seen in any other wine. There is no lack of vibrancy, as the acidity keeps this monument in balance and somehow still fresh after a century of its birth. Perfect, in a sense, exotic completeness, layers of complexity ever-changing and endless in length. Figs, dried apricots, florals, indigenous spices, honey, orange peel, crème brûlée, mandarins and the list can go on as oxygen penetrates your dense body and unfolds more and more layers. Impeccable texture, round and still well supported by a mineral backbone. A wine to change your life as it changed our.
Producer:
Once compared by Spanish critic Luis Gutierrez (Parker) to the “Domaine de la Romanée-Conti de Jerez”, the Valdespino house delivers what we expect from a producer at the top of the hierarchy of the magical Andalusian region: fabulous vineyards in the “grand cru” Macharnudo, a long history and uncompromising respect for tradition. The Valdespino family’s winemaking saga dates back to 1264, and this house makes no compromises in delivering the best and most traditional Jerez wines, in all their unsurpassed range of styles and emotions.
