Domaine du Pélican 'Grand Curoulet' Savagnin 2022
Arbois, Jura — France
Certified Biodynamic

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Producer
If Domaine Marquis d’Angerville chose to expand beyond the Côte d’Or, it was because something extraordinary was taking shape. The creation of Domaine du Pélican in the Jura took four years of dedicated work — with Burgundy geologist Yves Herody mapping out the most precious soils in the region, including old vineyards from Jacques Puffeney. When Jura and Burgundy come together, every bottle releases a wave of energy, emotion, and refinement.

Description
Grand Curoulet is one of the most prestigious terroirs in Arbois — often considered an unofficial grand cru of the Jura. This north-facing slope, protected from excess sun and heat, yields wines of piercing freshness and intense mineral character. The soils consist of grey marl and colourful Triassic marl — some of the oldest geological layers in the region.

Historically one of the most coveted sites in Arbois, Grand Curoulet is a hillside overlooking the village and the Saône plain, believed to be the birthplace of Jura viticulture.

The domaine acquired this extraordinary terroir in 2012 from naturalist winemaker Jean-Marc Brignot, who had taken over from the esteemed Robert Aviet. The upper slope has been replanted with Chardonnay, while the old-vine Savagnin expresses the purest mineral and vibrant identity that these grey marl soils can deliver.

The 2022 vintage reveals a Savagnin of remarkable aromatic complexity — fine pastry notes, toasted almonds, candied orange peel, and a crystalline, chalky core that lingers on the palate. The mouthfeel is dense, electric, and vibrant, with a tightly structured acidity and a persistent mineral finish.

A wine of depth and tension, made to challenge the senses — and evolve beautifully over decades in the cellar.
