Description

Established in 1612 by Capuchin monks and acquired by the Faller family in 1898, Domaine Weinbach is one of the most celebrated names in Alsace. Through more than a century of exceptional wines, the estate has become synonymous with purity, complexity and terroir. For over 20 years, it has embraced biodynamic farming to capture the essence of this borderland between France and Germany.

The Pinot Gris ‘Cuvée Ste. Catherine’ 2020 is sourced from old vines in two complementary terroirs: the domaine’s historic Clos des Capucins (sandy-silt soils with granitic gravel) and the base of the Grand Cru Schlossberg (pure granite). The result is a wine that blends breadth and tension with rare elegance.

Fermented with native yeasts and aged for 10 months in large neutral oak foudres, this Pinot Gris shows the grape’s refined and mineral side. The nose is subtle yet expressive, with hints of honey, exotic fruit, smoke and butter. The palate is rich and structured, with vibrant acidity that balances the volume and extends the finish.

Jancis Robinson MW awarded it 17+ points:
"A truly thrilling wine that finishes dry with great tension. Smoky nose and electric energy on the finish."
