Marjan “was key to the success of the Goriška Brda region” when, at the age of 20, he took over the family winery that had been in operation since 1860 and “changed the profile of the region and elevated it to the top nationally and internationally”, according to Decanter magazine. Brda has the privilege of a fantastic terroir, where the Alps meet the Mediterranean, with soils of limestone marl flysch, the famous Opoka. Marjan is a force of nature, and with organically grown grapes, he creates wines of immense authenticity and minerality, absolutely unmissable for terroir explorers.
Wine:
Sauvignon Vert comes from France. It was brought to the northern regions of Italy and Brda as early as 1600. Since the variety thrives in the local conditions, the natives (Friulians) simply adopted it as indigenous. And the Italian side of the border now calls it Friulano. Here, we are on the Italian side, in the Collio region and more specifically the special terroir of Ronc Zegla, where the vines reach 90 years of age! The altitude is lower, reaching 150 meters. Opoka marl and limestone make up the myriad of soils. Fermentation with 2-day maceration in 2,000-liter conical wooden vats. Indigenous yeasts. Aging in the same barrels for 23 months.
