Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Taillepieds 2022
The quintessence of Volnay. The historic estate, which includes the sublime Clos des Ducs, was once owned by the Dukes of Burgundy and has been rooted in the heart of the village in the hands of the same family for over 200 years. Authentic wines, of extreme minimalism, made by the d'Angerville family, who have always led the fight against counterfeiting, whether through pioneering estate bottling or their active role in the conception of the current Burgundy AOC system. Fully biodynamic since 2009, the purity of this superb producer's terroirs is maintained intact with the rigorous winemaking of François Duvivier, who delicately works the wines in harmony, respecting the rhythms of nature.

Terroir
Domaine Marquis d'Angerville possesses a notable 1.07-hectare plot in the Taillepieds climat, located at the top of the southern hill of Volnay, above the forest. The soils here are poor, light, and stony, with sharp-edged rocks – from which the name “Taillepieds” originates, as it wears out the boots of the vignerons quickly. The steep slope, poor soils, and strong sun exposure give the wines from this climat a singular elegance and great precision.
Winemaking
Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Gentle maceration and extraction to preserve the purity of the fruit and fine tannins. The wine is aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels (about 20-25% new), without fining or filtration.
Wine Description
The Taillepieds 2022 shows a more reserved and serious profile in its youth, due to its high altitude and austere terroir. It is a wine that expresses great elegance, with firm structure and impressive depth. More complete and robust than Champans or Caillerets, it requires time in the bottle to reveal all its aromatic complexity.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of black cherry, wild raspberry, violet, and wet stone. On the palate, it stands out with mineral tension, firm structure, and a long finish with a saline trace. A wine with soul and precision.
Food Pairing
Poultry game dishes, wild mushrooms, veal chops, aged meats, and dishes with black truffle.
Aging Potential
2028 to 2045. The Taillepieds is a wine for aging, which benefits immensely from bottle maturation.
Ratings
18/20 – Jancis Robinson
"Clear, bright ruby. Charming and seductive nose, already with a welcoming and harmonious feel. On the palate, the fruit appears broad and evolved—but soon the tannins come through with firmness and structure. This is a wine that can be enjoyed now… but perhaps it shouldn’t be just yet. Vibrant and resonant finish, echoing and bouncing on the palate like a billiard ball. It’s hard to predict an exact drinking window, assuming the wine doesn’t enter a closed phase… (JR)"
