Description
The Altenbourg 2022 is one of the deepest and most serious expressions of Pinot Noir in Alsace. Sourced from the lieu-dit Altenbourg, a south-facing hillside terroir just below the Grand Cru Furstentum, this wine is born from clay-rich limestone soils with marl and sandstone, and a stony structure that promotes excellent drainage and full phenolic ripeness.
The grapes are hand-harvested at peak ripeness, with 50% whole cluster fermentation, and the wine is aged for 24 months in 228L and 500L barrels, both new and used. The result is an intensely aromatic Pinot Noir with great depth and a silky texture that reflects its place of origin.
The nose reveals aromas of black cherries, ripe red berries, and subtle forest floor nuances. On the palate, the tannins are smooth and enveloping, with a rounded structure and remarkable balance. The finish is long, deep, and full of layers.
