Le Puy — Émilien Magnum 2019

Émilien 2019 from Château Le Puy is one of the great classic and timeless wines of Bordeaux, produced according to organic and biodynamic principles long before these terms became fashionable. Sourced from the limestone plateau of Saint-Cibard, within the Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, this wine expresses purity, energy, and an almost ethereal elegance, deliberately distancing itself from a muscular, overly extracted style.

Presented in Magnum format, Émilien 2019 benefits from slower, more harmonious aging, reinforcing its cellaring potential and its precise interpretation of terroir.

Terroir

The vineyards of Château Le Puy are located on an elevated plateau with strong limestone influence and excellent natural drainage. This setting favors wines of great freshness, fine tannins, and remarkable aging capacity, even in warm vintages such as 2019.

Grape Varieties

Merlot
Cabernet Sauvignon
Cabernet Franc
Carmenère

Viticulture

Organic and biodynamic farming
Old vines
Manual harvest

Vinification

Vinification follows a minimal-intervention philosophy:

  • fermentation with indigenous yeasts

  • gentle extractions

  • no fining or filtration

  • extremely moderate (or nil, depending on the vintage) use of sulphur

The goal is to fully preserve the identity of the place and the vitality of the wine.

Aging

Aging takes place in vessels that respect the purity of the fruit and the terroir, favoring slow oxygenation and natural integration, without any evident oak imprint.

Tasting Notes

On the nose, it reveals fresh red and black fruit, floral notes, dried herbs, and a very elegant limestone backdrop. On the palate, it is fluid, precise, and deeply balanced, with silky tannins, well-defined natural acidity, and a long finish that is subtly earthy and mineral. A wine of great finesse, driven more by energy and depth than by power.

Pairings

Ideal with:

  • roasted or braised meats

  • game birds

  • classic French cuisine

  • mushroom and autumnal dishes

  • medium-aged cheeses
