Marjan Simčič Pinot Noir Opoka 'Breg Cru' 2018
Brda, Slovenia – Organic red wine
Single vineyard: Breg Cru | Mature vines & opoka soils
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Description
Marjan Simčič is widely recognized as the driving force behind the rise of Goriška Brda to the top tier of Slovenian wine. Taking over the family domaine at just 20, he transformed the region's identity through precision viticulture and minimal intervention, showcasing the incredible potential of Brda’s flysch-based terroir known as Opoka.
This Pinot Noir comes from 34-year-old vines on east-facing slopes in the prestigious Breg Cru, rooted in opoka soils — a complex mix of marl, shale and sandstone. The 2018 vintage is translucent ruby in color and offers remarkable finesse and aromatic depth.
The bouquet opens with red forest berries, subtle vanilla, smoky black tea leaves, and fresh raspberries. The palate is vibrant and focused, with polished tannins, crisp acidity and a silky texture. The finish is long, earthy and gently mineral.
