Forjas del Salnés Leirana Albariño 2024
Rodrigo Méndez is the name behind this vibrant project in the Rías Baixas, where the tradition of Atlantic wines is being given a new lease of life. Alongside Raúl Pérez, Rodrigo was responsible for rescuing old Albariño vineyards and raising the level of expression and purity of Galician wines. Leirana is his entry-level wine—but don't be fooled: it is one of the most authentic Albariños in the region, full of mineral character and salinity.
Description
Leirana Albariño 2024 comes from vines aged between 40 and 85 years old, grown on granite and sandy soils, just 60 meters above sea level and a stone's throw from the Atlantic. Viticulture is carried out on traditional pergolas, with low density and manual harvesting.
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel (60%) and foudres (40%), without malolactic fermentation, to preserve maximum natural freshness. The wine ages for 8 months on the lees, gaining texture and complexity.
Vinification and Oenology
The 2024 harvest allowed for ideal ripeness, with 13.4% alcohol by volume, pH of 3.23, and total acidity of 7.8 g/l. After total destemming, the grapes were pressed and the must fermented with indigenous yeasts. The wine aged for 8 months: 20% in stainless steel and 80% in oak foudres. Bottled in June 2025, with an expressive and deeply mineral profile.
