Marc Hébrart 'Clos de Léon' 1er Cru Extra Brut 2016
Champagne, France

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Overview

The Premier Cru of Mareuil-sur-Aÿ carries the prestige of producing some of Champagne’s most powerful and vibrant wines — among them the famed Clos des Goisses from Philipponnat. It is on these steep hillsides that Jean-Paul Hébrart offers us an intimate expression of the region: champagnes that are creamy and fruit-rich, yet anchored by a firm, racy minerality. The dynamic and generous style of this wonderful grower is sure to win the hearts of champagne lovers, no matter their level of experience with terroir-driven wines.

Wine

Clos de Léon is a rare gem — a true clos, a walled micro-parcel in Dizy 1er Cru, on steep slopes with pure chalk soils. Crafted from 100% Chardonnay, this wine precisely expresses the tension and mineral elegance of the Vallée de la Marne terroir, elevated by Hébrart’s meticulous winemaking.

Fermented and aged in used 300L barrels, with full malolactic fermentation, it then rests for 72 months sur lie, developing a silky texture and remarkable complexity. Bottled Extra Brut (3 g/L dosage), it is a dry, gastronomic champagne.

In the glass: brilliant lemon-yellow with a fine, integrated mousse. The nose offers lemon peel, tangerine oil, mint, dried herbs, and flinty minerality. The palate combines power and finesse, with a subtle mousse and a long, deeply saline finish.
