Marjan “was key to the success of the Goriška Brda region” when, at the age of 20, he took over the family winery that had been in operation since 1860 and “changed the profile of the region and elevated it to the top nationally and internationally”, according to Decanter magazine. Brda has the privilege of a fantastic terroir, where the Alps meet the Mediterranean, with soils of limestone marl flysch, the famous Opoka. Marjan is a force of nature, and with organically grown grapes, he creates wines of immense authenticity and minerality, absolutely unmissable for terroir explorers.

Wine:

Marjan Simčič Pinot Noir Cru Selection 2020
Brda, Slovenia
Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir

This translucent ruby-colored Pinot Noir is a remarkable example of varietal purity, originating from the vineyard Medana Jama, with 26 years old, planted at 150–250 meters of altitude and exposed to southeast, on soils of marl, slate and sandstone (opoka).

On the nose, it reveals a clear and expressive bouquet, with notes of wild red fruits, tobacco leaf, a touch of black tea and subtle vanilla well integrated.

In the mouth, it is precise and vibrant, with fruit juicy wild strawberry, elegant acidity and fine tannins with excellent texture. A young, authentic and meticulously vinified Pinot — which is already charming now, but will gain even more complexity with some time in the cellar.
