Luís Lopes is one of the most talented winemakers in Portugal, and in his vibrant youth, he has already accumulated an experience in vineyards, wineries and tastings that few professionals in the world have. From Comte Lafon in Burgundy to almost a decade at the helm of the classic wines of Quinta da Pellada, to New Zealand and leading projects as different and challenging as the wines of Alvear in the Spanish Estremadura, the humble Luís always surpasses himself. His personal project Moreish reveals his most spontaneous side, with wines that are as unusual from grapes and techniques discovered in his travels around the world, as they are delicious, to make you want more!

Wine:

Moreish Common + x - 2022
Extremadura, Spain
Grape variety: 100% Garnacha (Common)

Produced from a vineyard planted in 2016, situated on a slope of mixed soil — clay with pebbles at the base, and clay-limestone on top, so chalky that it leaves your hands white. The Garnacha, here called Common, shows great resilience to the extreme conditions of the region: it ripens slowly, maintaining pH and acidity with remarkable stability.

The grapes were completely destemmed, but without crushing the berries, fermenting in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts. This was followed by a stage of two years in used 500 L French oak barrels. The wine was bottled without fining or filtering, directly from the barrel, with a minimum dose of sulfites.

Vinified and bottled at the origin itself — Burnt Palace Winery, where the Luis Lopes acts as a consultant — this is an honest, vibrant red that is faithful to the soil where it was born.
