Julien Sunier Régnié 2023
Originally from Burgundy, where he worked from Beaune to Nuits-Saint-Georges, Julien Sunier built strong ties with the legendary Christophe Roumier before broadening his horizons in California and New Zealand. He founded his small domaine in 2008 and quickly became one of the most respected names in Beaujolais. He farms old vines in Morgon, Fleurie and Régnié, with organic viticulture and natural winemaking, producing Beaujolais of rare elegance and purity, a style with the soul of Chambolle-Musigny.
Description
From the "En Oeillat" plot, at the base of the legendary Côte du Py hill (on the border with Morgon), this Régnié comes from vines over 60 years old planted on sandy pink granite soils.
The grapes are hand harvested and vinified with minimal intervention. Ageing is 20% in concrete tanks and 80% in neutral French oak barrels, producing a pure, vibrant wine. A Régnié full of energy, with crisp red fruit, dried herbs and pronounced granite minerality, a refined take on one of Beaujolais' most underrated crus.
