Producer
The Margaine family has been cultivating vineyards in Villers-Marmery since 1796, one of the most distinctive terroirs in the Montagne de Reims. Although this historic village is surrounded by Pinot Noir vineyards, its east-facing slopes and unique soils create ideal conditions for Chardonnay, giving rise to Champagnes that are simultaneously refined, vinous and profoundly mineral.
Today, the estate is run by Arnaud Margaine, who farms around 10 hectares using sustainable viticulture, with meticulous soil management, low yields and precise vineyard work. The advanced age of the vines and the singular identity of Villers-Marmery give the Champagnes a distinctive personality, defined by elegance, purity and exceptional gastronomic versatility.
Wine
A. Margaine Rosé de Saignée 2016 is one of the house's signature cuvées and a rare expression of the traditional saignée method in Champagne. Produced through a short co-maceration of 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay, it derives its delicate rosé colour, structure and aromatic depth naturally, without the addition of still red wine.
The grapes, sourced exclusively from the Premier Cru vineyards of Villers-Marmery, undergo approximately 20 hours of maceration, preserving the freshness and precision of Chardonnay while allowing Pinot Noir to contribute texture, fruit and complexity. Malolactic fermentation is intentionally avoided, maintaining vibrant acidity and providing outstanding ageing potential.
The 2016 vintage displays a style that is both elegant and vinous. Aromas of fresh cherry, wild raspberry, peony, rose petals, pomegranate and delicate brioche unfold on the nose. The palate is deep and creamy, with exceptionally fine mousse, remarkable freshness and a long, mineral finish.
As La Revue du Vin de France perfectly described:
"Open this rosé champagne now, frankly tasty, sprinkled with beautiful notes of cherry and peony. A very beautiful deep identity of rosé."
A Champagne of remarkable personality, offering immediate pleasure while rewarding extended cellaring.
