Cortinha Velha Vinhão 2025 is a fresh and contemporary interpretation of one of Portugal’s most distinctive native red grape varieties. Produced in the prestigious Monção e Melgaço sub-region of Vinhos Verdes, this limited-production wine showcases the vibrant character, natural acidity and gastronomic versatility that make Vinhão one of the most unique expressions of Atlantic Portuguese viticulture.

Cortinha Velha is a small-scale project dedicated to authentic winemaking, sustainable vineyard practices and minimal intervention in the cellar. Working exclusively with traditional grape varieties and small production volumes, the estate seeks to capture the purity and freshness of the terroir through spontaneous fermentations and careful, hands-on vineyard management.

The 2025 vintage is produced exclusively from Vinhão grown on granite soils in Monção e Melgaço. The grapes were harvested by hand during the cool morning hours and transported in small 20kg crates to preserve fruit quality. Following complete destemming, fermentation occurred spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, followed by natural malolactic fermentation. The wine was then aged for six months exclusively in stainless steel tanks, preserving its aromatic purity and energetic profile.

On the nose, it reveals expressive aromas of ripe red berries alongside vibrant fresh notes characteristic of the variety. The palate is lively, crunchy and remarkably food-friendly, combining juicy fruit with bright acidity and a refreshing Atlantic character that defines the best wines of the region.

With only 1,332 bottles produced, Cortinha Velha Vinhão 2025 offers a refined and modern perspective on this traditional Portuguese grape, demonstrating its capacity to deliver freshness, balance and exceptional versatility at the table.

For lovers of indigenous Portuguese varieties, low-intervention wines and cool-climate reds, this is a compelling example of contemporary Vinhão from one of Portugal's most exciting wine regions.

Food Pairing

An excellent match for grilled sardines, barbecued meats, traditional Portuguese sausages, pork dishes, rojões and arroz de cabidela. Its vibrant acidity and fresh profile also make it an ideal companion to rustic Portuguese cuisine and charcoal-grilled dishes.
