Domaine Buronfosse Marcus Chardonnay 2023 is a strikingly pure and mineral expression of Jura Chardonnay, produced by Peggy and Jean-Pascal Buronfosse, one of the region's most respected low-intervention estates. Renowned for their meticulous organic viticulture and artisanal approach, the Buronfosses craft wines that combine authenticity, precision and an extraordinary sense of place.
Domaine Buronfosse has become a benchmark for modern Jura winemaking, producing natural wines of remarkable clarity and energy while maintaining a rigorous commitment to vineyard expression. Their wines are celebrated for their freshness, tension and geological transparency, revealing the unique character of Jura's diverse terroirs.
Marcus Chardonnay 2023 originates from a small and distinctive limestone plateau with exceptionally poor, stony soils. Beyond the region's traditional limestone marls, this vineyard contains a significant concentration of limestone bedrock, a defining feature that contributes to the wine's pronounced mineral character and crystalline structure.
The wine is fermented naturally with indigenous yeasts and aged for approximately nine months on fine lees in used barrels, always topped up (ouillé) to preserve freshness and avoid oxidative development. No fining or filtration is carried out, allowing the wine to retain its natural texture and vitality.
Among the estate's Chardonnay wines, Marcus is often considered the most linear, tension-driven and mineral. The nose reveals aromas of citrus fruits, white flowers, wet stone and delicate reductive notes that add complexity and freshness. On the palate, it is vibrant, focused and intensely mouthwatering, combining purity of fruit with a distinctly chalky mineral backbone.
The 2023 vintage also displays a subtle natural spritz resulting from a light secondary fermentation in bottle. This gentle effervescence integrates seamlessly into the wine, enhancing freshness, energy and drinkability while accentuating its already lively character.
The result is a highly distinctive Jura Chardonnay that balances precision and personality, offering an exceptionally refreshing and gastronomic drinking experience.
