André Robert Collection d’Auteur Grand Cru 2016 is a profound and highly terroir-driven Champagne crafted from some of the finest Chardonnay vineyards in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, one of the most revered Grand Cru villages of the Côte des Blancs. Produced by André Robert, one of Champagne's most respected grower-producers, this cuvée represents a meticulous exploration of the village's unique chalk terroir and the extraordinary ageing potential of Grand Cru Chardonnay.
Based in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, the André Robert family is renowned for its artisanal approach to viticulture and winemaking, focusing exclusively on Chardonnay from Grand Cru vineyards. Through parcel-by-parcel vinification, low yields and extended lees ageing, the domaine consistently produces Champagnes of remarkable precision, minerality and depth.
The Collection d’Auteur Grand Cru 2016 is sourced exclusively from four exceptional vineyard parcels: Les Vaucherots, Les Coullemets du Midi, Les Finciarts and Les Chétillons, all located within the historic heart of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. These low-yielding vineyards, producing only 5,000 to 6,000 kilograms per hectare, generate grapes of exceptional concentration, naturally high acidity and remarkably low pH, allowing for extended ripening while preserving freshness and tension.
Vinification takes place entirely in 228-litre oak barrels, adding texture and complexity without overshadowing the purity of the fruit. Importantly, malolactic fermentation is blocked, preserving the wine's vibrant natural acidity and reinforcing its mineral backbone. The wine spends 10 months ageing on fine lees with bâtonnage, enhancing depth and structure before secondary fermentation in bottle.
The aromatic profile is both refined and intense, revealing layers of candied citrus, green apple, white flowers, delicate brioche and subtle toasted nuts. Beneath these aromas lies a powerful chalk-driven minerality that is unmistakably Le Mesnil.
On the palate, the wine is focused, vertical and deeply saline. The mousse is exceptionally fine, supporting a structure defined by precision, tension and mineral energy. Its low dosage of 3 g/L allows the purity of the terroir to shine, leading to a long, crystalline and persistent finish.
Built for long-term ageing, André Robert Collection d’Auteur Grand Cru 2016 is a compelling example of Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Champagne and a benchmark expression of the limestone-rich terroirs that have made Le Mesnil-sur-Oger legendary among Champagne lovers.
