Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino 2021 is a benchmark expression of traditional Brunello, crafted by Riccardo Campinoti at one of Montalcino's most admired estates. Renowned for its focus on elegance, altitude and terroir transparency, Le Ragnaie has become a leading reference for Brunello lovers seeking finesse, freshness and authentic Sangiovese character.
The estate's vineyards are spread across several of Montalcino's most distinctive zones, including some of the highest and coolest sites in the appellation. This diversity allows Le Ragnaie to create wines of remarkable complexity while preserving the precision and energy that define the estate's style.
The Brunello di Montalcino 2021 is a carefully assembled blend from five estate vineyards: Ragnaie, Petroso, Loreto, Fornace and Cava. Together, these sites offer a complete and nuanced portrait of Montalcino, combining altitude, structure, minerality and aromatic depth in a wine of exceptional harmony.
The 2021 vintage is widely regarded as one of the finest and most classical in recent years, delivering an ideal balance between ripeness, freshness and precision. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks, followed by approximately 35 days of skin maceration to gently extract structure and complexity. The wine is then aged for 36 months in large Slavonian oak botti, preserving the purity of Sangiovese and allowing the terroir to remain at the forefront.
The nose reveals an elegant array of red cherry, wild strawberry, rose petals, Mediterranean herbs, damp earth and subtle mineral notes. On the palate, the wine is refined and energetic, combining remarkable depth with vibrant freshness. The tannins are firm yet beautifully integrated, providing structure without heaviness, while the finish is long, savoury and distinctly saline.
Critics have praised the wine for its balance, transparency and classical character. Wine Spectator awarded 95 points, highlighting its combination of aromatic delicacy and structure. Vinous awarded 94 points, noting its mineral precision and elegance, while John Gilman's View From The Cellar also awarded 94 points, praising its harmony and timeless Brunello character.
A superb example of modern-classical Brunello di Montalcino, this wine offers immediate appeal while possessing the structure and balance to evolve gracefully over the coming decades.
