Domaine Morey-Coffinet Chassagne-Montrachet Les Houillères 2023 | Burgundy – Temple Wines
Description
Domaine Morey-Coffinet
Located in Chassagne-Montrachet, Domaine Morey-Coffinet is today an essential reference of the Côte de Beaune. Under the direction of Thibault Morey, the domaine pursues a clear philosophy: placing terroir at the center, through demanding organic viticulture, practices inspired by biodynamics, and a minimal-intervention approach in the cellar. The wines stand out for their precision, the mineral expression of clay-limestone soils, and a remarkable ability to evolve in bottle, revealing ever greater depth over time.
The Wine
Les Houillères is a plateau parcel with south-facing exposure, producing a Chassagne-Montrachet with a more direct and luminous profile, while retaining the appellation’s characteristic mineral identity. The clay-limestone soils and relatively open altitude give the wine a frank, balanced expression that is approachable in its youth.
At Domaine Morey-Coffinet, this cuvée benefits from old vines planted in 1955, complemented by recent replantings, ensuring natural concentration and freshness. Certified organic viticulture and careful soil work preserve the energy of the terroir, while vinification favors clarity and precision.
Aging in barrel, moderate in duration and carefully calibrated in its use of new oak, supports the wine without diminishing its definition, resulting in an expressive, harmonious, and highly gastronomic Chardonnay.
Tasting Notes
An open and elegant nose, with notes of white-fleshed fruit, ripe citrus, and a subtly calcareous undertone. On the palate, it is balanced, with a smooth texture, well-integrated acidity, and a clean, persistent finish. A Chassagne-Montrachet of great precision and excellent drinkability.
