Portalegre is one of the wine regions with the greatest potential not only in Alentejo, but in all of Portugal. The Fino family was one of the pioneers of the region, initially linked to Tapada do Chaves, and after its sale in 1998, to Monte da Penha, planted in the 1980s in beautiful vineyards on the slopes of the Serra de Mamede, in mostly granite soils, between 400 and 550 meters above sea level. The wines from this house age superbly, and their collection of old vintages is a treasure that tells the story of the history and geography of this incredible region. The talented Susana Esteban has been in charge of its winemaking since 2020.
Wine:
Alicante Bouschet, Aragonês (or Tempranillo) and Trincadeira handpicked from small plots of a vineyard planted in 1987. Granite soils at an altitude of between 450 and 600 metres, in Portalegre. Aged for one year in French Allier oak barrels (250 and 500 litres).
