Marc Hébrart Noces de Craie 2020 Extra Brut Blanc de Noirs is a profound and terroir-focused Champagne crafted exclusively from Grand Cru Pinot Noir grown in the legendary village of Aÿ, one of Champagne's most revered sources of powerful yet remarkably mineral wines. Produced by Jean-Paul Hébrart, one of the leading grower-producers of the Vallée de la Marne, this cuvée captures the unique dialogue between ripe Pinot Noir fruit and the chalk-rich soils that define the finest vineyards of Aÿ.
Based in nearby Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, a Premier Cru village famous for producing some of Champagne's most imposing and long-lived wines, including Philipponnat's iconic Clos des Goisses, Marc Hébrart has built a reputation for Champagnes that combine generosity, texture and fruit with remarkable precision and mineral energy. His dynamic and expressive style has made him one of the most admired artisan producers in the region.
The name "Noces de Craie", meaning Marriage of Chalk, pays tribute to the chalk-dominated terroirs of Aÿ, where Pinot Noir achieves one of its most complete and compelling expressions. The wine is sourced from a selection of Grand Cru parcels including Cheuzelles, Longchamp, Pierre Robert, Pruche and Chauffour, all planted on chalk-rich soils that contribute striking tension and minerality.
Produced exclusively from 100% Pinot Noir, the 2020 vintage was vinified in stainless steel to preserve freshness and precision, with full malolactic fermentation enhancing texture and harmony. Following more than 36 months ageing on lees, the wine was released with a restrained Extra Brut dosage of 5 g/L, allowing the purity of the terroir to remain centre stage.
The aromatic profile is rich and layered, combining ripe nectarine, greengage plum and subtle pineapple confectionery notes with deeper nuances of roasted chestnut, maple syrup and delicate spice. Beneath the fruit lies a powerful chalky signature that brings focus, complexity and remarkable energy.
On the palate, the wine is broad, textured and intensely expressive. Deep layers of Pinot Noir fruit unfold across a framework of incisive chalk minerality, creating a Champagne that is simultaneously generous and precise. The mousse is refined, the acidity vibrant, and the finish exceptionally long, saline and mineral.
Vinous awarded 94 points, describing the wine as a powerful and vibrant Blanc de Noirs marked by deep Pinot fruit and striking chalk-driven precision. Jancis Robinson awarded 17/20, praising its ability to gain depth and complexity with every sip while rewarding patience and bottle age.
A serious gastronomic Champagne with exceptional ageing potential, Marc Hébrart Noces de Craie 2020 stands as one of the most compelling expressions of Grand Cru Pinot Noir from Aÿ.
