Pierre Gerbais La Loge Extra-Brut | Champagne, 94 Points Parker, Exclusive Temple Wines Selection
The Producer
Pierre Gerbais, led by Aurélien Gerbais, is today one of the most solid names in the Côte des Bar, Champagne. The 18 hectare family estate in Celles-sur-Ource stands out for its certified sustainable farming (Ampelos) and a precision driven approach that prioritizes freshness, purity and terroir expression.
With massal selection vines and a philosophy that rejects overripeness, Gerbais has established itself as a producer redefining the region's style, crafting Champagnes that are at once vibrant, vinous and highly elegant. Its single plot cuvées, built on perpetual reserves, now place it among the most relevant names in Champagne.
The Wine
Pierre Gerbais La Loge Extra-Brut is an exceptional single plot Champagne, awarded 94 points by Robert Parker, standing as one of the purest expressions of Pinot Blanc in Champagne.
Made from vines planted in the 1930s, around 80 years old, on a south facing plateau over Kimmeridgian soils, this wine blends the 2020 harvest with 50% reserve wines from a perpetual reserve started in 2011.
In the glass, it shows great aromatic complexity, with notes of pear, yellow apple, apricot and beeswax, alongside spring flowers and a subtle smoky touch. On the palate it is concentrated and taut, with generous fruit, vibrant acidity and a long, precise, distinctly saline finish.
Winemaking follows a rigorous approach: pressing in a Coquard press, fermentation with indigenous yeasts (pied de cuve), full malolactic fermentation and ageing in stainless steel. The wine ages 36 months sur lattes and is disgorged with at least 6 further months before release. The dosage is extra brut (3 g/l), preserving purity and definition.
A Champagne of great class, combining depth, freshness and precision, ideal for connoisseurs and lovers of terroir Champagne.
Suggested Pairings
This structured, mineral Champagne is ideal for sophisticated food pairings. Excellent with fine shellfish, scallops, grilled fish and contemporary French cuisine.
