Le Ragnaie Troncone Rosso Toscana IGT 2024 is a vibrant and approachable expression of Sangiovese crafted by Riccardo Campinoti, one of Montalcino's most respected producers. While designed for earlier enjoyment than the estate's Brunello wines, Troncone fully reflects the elegance, precision and terroir-focused philosophy that have made Le Ragnaie a benchmark for contemporary Tuscan wine.
Le Ragnaie has earned international acclaim through its commitment to high-altitude vineyards, traditional winemaking and transparent expressions of Sangiovese. The estate's wines are celebrated for their aromatic finesse, refined tannins and remarkable freshness, offering a distinctive and classical interpretation of Tuscany's most important grape variety.
The name "Troncone" was the nickname of Riccardo Campinoti's grandfather, reflecting the wine's authentic, convivial and deeply Tuscan character. Produced from younger Sangiovese vines located in the Lago and Fonte vineyards, it combines accessibility with the precision and purity that define the estate.
Fermentation takes place spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in cement tanks, followed by approximately 15 days of skin maceration. The wine is then aged for 12 months in large Slavonian oak botti ranging from 25 to 100 hectolitres, preserving freshness, fruit purity and varietal expression while avoiding excessive oak influence.
The nose is expressive and inviting, revealing aromas of wild strawberry, red cherry, dried rose petals, soft leather and Mediterranean herbs. Subtle mineral notes add complexity and lift. On the palate, the wine is energetic, focused and highly drinkable, with vibrant acidity, silky tannins and a refreshing saline finish that encourages another sip.
Awarded 91 points by Vinous, critic Eric Guido highlighted its pure red fruit character, mineral nuances and fresh, savoury finish.
Le Ragnaie Troncone 2024 is an excellent introduction to the estate's style and one of the most compelling value wines in Tuscany for lovers of elegant, terroir-driven Sangiovese.
